Coloured Braces 101
There are two types of colours we use on braces. The first type are elastic ligatures. They are individual elastics (shaped like a donut) that are placed around each bracket. You can choose one colour (or even grey or clear), or alternate two colours.
When spaces are present we use something called powerchain. Basically it is a series of elastic ligatures connected to each other. The powerchain is stretched along the braces – this can cause a tight feeling. However, over time the powerchain will help close spaces as it recoils. Although we have many colour options for powerchain, we usually recommend grey as it’s more effective.
The most important point – you are never locked into your colour choice. The elastic ligatures or power chain are changed at every appointment!
